8/17/2025 After the Disaster. . . Persevere
Sunday, August 17th: “After the Disaster . . . Persevere”
Survival mode. I think most of us have experienced this. One indication for me is a diet of peanut butter sandwiches and cold cereal. The Old Testament Prophet Haggai understood survival mode, as he encouraged the Jews to keep worshipping God as they rebuilt Jerusalem. Haggai challenged them to change from an attitude of survival to an attitude of perseverance. When we persevere, we keep connected to God as we struggle. “My spirit remains among you,” says the Lord of heavenly forces, “so do not be afraid” (v. 5). This is God’s promise to us, God’s people. Not even the most difficult circumstance, or the most arduous task, will persuade God to stay away, giving us the strength to persevere.
