Sunday, February 15th: “Rise Up: God Is Speaking”
Our journey over the last 6 weeks has been “bookended” by a voice from heaven declaring Jesus to be God’s beloved Son. We’ve been learning how to listen, move, answer and focus on God in the midst of daily life. This week, our scripture passages are the transfiguration of Jesus, from the Gospel of Mark, and the departure of Elijah, witnessed and accompanied by Elisha, from Old Testament Book of 2 Kings. These passages point us both to where we’ve been and where we need to go next. Just like Elisha had been Elijah’s disciple, and followed Elijah on the final journey of his life, we too, as Jesus’ disciples, are called to listen to Jesus and follow where he leads. We’ve received more than a double portion of His Spirit. Even when we don’t feel sure, even when things are dark, the Spirit of God goes with us.
