Now, let’s be honest. Very few people like this answer: “You’ll just have to wait.” Wait? Just be patient? I love the prayer that goes: “Lord, give me patience, and make it snappy.” Like little children at Christmas, many of us find that being patient is hard. And, hearing we have to wait patiently is not the response we want from God. But Christian waiting is not just passively standing by, ignoring injustice, ignoring hatred, ignoring abuse. Christian waiting is powered by the Holy Spirit, who is actively working in the world. The power of small acts of Christian love allow us to sustain patience and hope as we wait. Let small acts take us away from fear of the large acts — and surprise us with great things, as we wait with patience for the vision of God!
